						www.point-lookout-mountain.com www.artbykathyemendes.com www.indlbr.com www.graysonlandco.com www.historic1908courthouse.org www.graysoncountyva.com - GAIN (Grayson Area Information Network) A Brief History In 1997, when the Internet was barely known in the "nether regions" of Southwest Virginia, Congressman Rick Boucher held a symposium in Abingdon on how the Internet could enable rural communities to compete in the marketplace. A group of interested citizens from Grayson County attended the workshop and came away with a plan to begin our own Electronic Village. A committee was formed, met and wrote a mission statement. A name was chosen - Grayson Area Information Network (GAIN). The goal was to promote Grayson County. For many years, as a volunteer, I worked with then Tourism Director Betty Scott (1995-2005) to come up with a logo and a design that would showcase our region. A lot of work went into gathering information and photography. Websites are what you make of them and with another talented person, Dennis Warren, who at that time worked for Professional Networks, we edited content and tried to make GAIN as user friendly as possible. The GAIN the public sees today started with these few people. We're proud of our accomplishments. Things changed through the years and Betty and Dennis moved on to greener pastures. Main Street Grafix still submits photography to GAIN and works with the IP to make sure my customers have a presence and information is kept current.
